Scientific Models for Year 9

Scientific Models for Year 9

MODEL

A mathematical, conceptual or physical representation that describes, simplifies, clarifies or provides an explanation of the structure, workings or relationships within an object, system or idea. Models can provide a means of testing and predicting behaviour within limited conditions.

Convection and Conduction

  • PW1Energy transfer through different mediums can be explained using wave and particle models(ACSSU182)
  • Students:
  • a.explain, in terms of the particle model, the processes underlying convection and conduction of heat energy

Can you find 3 things wrong with this web page?

Link to page http://www.schoolphysics.co.uk/age16-19/Relativity/text/Time_dilation/index.html

Hint there are two errors in the diagram and a small error in the equations given.  I will prepare a podcast soon on this.... but students really are unsettled if they have first invested time, then are a little confused and as a rule don't believe there are errors.

Space riddle

Does light weigh anything?

Does light weigh anything?
If you put in on scales trapped between two mirrors the gravitational red shift as it moves from the bottom up to the top mirror will have a tiny effect on the recoil imparted to the mirrors , so yes.
My apologies for acceleration in m.s-1 rather than m.s-2

Hydrogen Ions

Hydrogen ions have now electrons so are the Ninja's of the chemical world

Oxygen 2- ion

Oxygen ion requires deep understanding to get why it doesn't fly apart
