Reading and commenting on the little book of Calm. Somethings I do, but honestly it assumes you have plenty of wealth and time to spare. Other things are great to think about because they would create so much stress in the people around you.

Cameroon - Shrimpland
Well I thought it was going to be a light read, but it wasn't. My mind hurts as to how a country can adopt English in one place and French in another since 1919 and in 50 years start fighting each other over it. I know I am not there, but I do so absolutely love hearing people speak French because it sounds so nice, and I am so hopeless at it. The CO2 burping lake is there. It is the sort of country geography you would make up if you had to do it for a school assignment. Breath takingly corrupt with quite a number of refugees coming in, but also quite a number also fleeing. And yes Cameroon comes from the Portugese for shrimp. I bet the little guy that was caught way back in 1492 had no idea that he would be remembered by a whole country.

Austraila 2
There are lots of things I knew, but lots of things I found out by reading the wikipedia article on this. As an Aussie, there is nothing outrageously inaccurate but it does tend to tick off the standard self myths we tell ourselves.

Yemen 4
Well after getting through the politics other drivers of this nightmare emerge. The population is out of control and they are running out of water, whilst diverting alot of agriculture to growning qat a leaf drug. With a highly tribal society this seems very hard to speak sense to any one coherent group. I absolutely like the sport of camel jumping, partly as it allows women as much as men to jump over as many camels as they can. As a camel, as long as you weren't the last camel and hit by incompetent jumpers it would not be all that bad as a sport. Dropping the legal marriage age to 9 is a bit of a problem for me. Yemen did host the university on the Red sea that was the home to algebra which is a contrasting gift to the world. Saudi Arabia has built a wall to keep the Yemeni out and this is amazing given the walls in the US, and Israel.
Also included in this Post is the Yemeni national anthem. I like its use of the idea that it echos and repeats, then I am left wondering as it refers to Martrys and defeating any foreign intervention.

Ginger cats and other stories
More cat stories or are they more about our struggle to make sense and restore order to a world that is doing its own thing any way?
