"Whats your story?" So important, you get kicked out of society if you can't recite the story, name all the props. So we have really evolved to have a single group story. Everyone can recite it, or mention parts of it, and others can fill in the rest. I contend males and females have a different linkage to the social story as they have different social trajectories. Alot of energy is expended working people differing stories into a coherent social machine. Because stories become a program and we operate on cues we can become locked into the stories. It needs to be fixed, but part of the story serves another function of getting individual access to mates and food. The price of questioning a story can have short term costs. People are locked in.
So the class is asking for an imagined non-child version of the Science story. This is okay, but science is listening to the story of nature as told by experiments, and sometimes it doesn't fit the narrative, which spells not-on-message-naughty-person-time. Surely this is a disastrous situation. ... and it has been, is and will be.
Science is producing lots of really reliable gauges that are turning up on the cockpit dashboard of spaceship earth. The fuel level is on empty, the air conditioning is critical and people are back in business class partying like there is no tomorrow. Well in fact you might want to start doodling on the tomorrow part of the itinerary as in fact its all going to be cancelled. Hey, by the way can I have some more drinks as it is getting hot in here. Lets break out the Great Artesian basin mineral water!
People don't mess around when it comes to keeping everyone to one central story and we humans have really got into our heads that we have to kill each other. You hear about ants really getting into this kind of stuff, but humans really just keep coming up with the old chestnut. We have transitioned from war as just being an another day on the planet, to did you hear the story they were telling, it just so does mix with my story.
