40 plusminus 50 grams a day

General discussion of a tracked weight loss, and then insane ideas being taught to children and the people committed to do so. My aim is merely to keep mental active on a rather though 90 min walk to and from Glenbrook Gorge.

Mind Prep for Tiny Galaxy

A podcast while driving so the quality is not the best. However, I go through the mental notes ahead of meeting with the Mayor and town planners. There doesn't look to be an obsticale to set up a one trillionth scale sun in the local town and then place other scale stars at scale around the earth.

The Great Scientists_6

Well I ready feel for Mendel the monk, school teacher who was told he was a fool by people who ought to know because they were in fact fools themselves.

The article on Medeleyev as the spell it was not a terrible as in the dumb text books we have here in New South Wales that imply he was a vodka swilling Russian, but it wasn't that clever itself. I think it is enormously interesting that he was a chemistry teacher writing a text book and this lead to the creation of something that happens to be ideal for teaching. I am dismayed however that his table is 90 degrees from the current one. The current one printed in the book is about the worst periodic table I have ever seen, but at least only has poorly placed elements and not incorrectly placed elements.

James Clerk Maxwell was also an interesting read. I don't think the authors have got the news that the lines of force of Faraday is really junk folk science and importantly in this context it was Maxwell who pointed it out, and rather crucially it was Faraday who concluded it was junk science. No worries it is easy to teach.

Max Planck, getting into post 1900 here, was an okay read until they butchered Quantum Mechanics. Honestly, had no one in the entire production process of this book twigged?
Are we to swallow that Energy is made of a discreet number of packets of angular momentum. You would I would think read Panck's Nobel prize speech to get an accurate handle on what he did. Well, what ever.

The Great Scientists_5

I really feel that they have misrepresented Faraday, and have definitely not understood that Faraday's lines of force are at the end of day folk and bogus science. The demon of poor school teaching has effected the authors and like a virus infecting generations. The real story of Faraday is fascinating. I did find it interesting though finding out details of his mental decline. I am so pleased to have read about Pasteur and did not realise that he did so much of his work so much later in life. It is really interesting to see that Pasteur was affected by stroke and could not access his old laboratories that required to enter them on his knees. There are lots of shards of information that help build a big picture. His cure of Rabies is just extraordinary with 200 dying or the 20, 000 that came to him for help.

Lineus struck on using sex and science and it worked well. We hear about Lavoisier and how legal training transfer into key scientific skills.

Two Dutch scientists Huygens and the Leeuwenhoek the later was a really lovable ordinary bloke. Then we have Hooke and Newton. I am actually a little upset by the way they get Newton's contribution so wrong.

On losing weight

Having a practical chat to my mate Pino followed onto this basic guide to shedding those additional kilo hanging around. The format means that I was interrupted in the short form of the podcast and it trails on to a cardio walk and I have filled the extra space with thoughts on the role of evolution, parasite load and food as a social power/control currency of our society. It is important to thing through why and how people are treating you and how you have been conditioned to respond if you are going to successfully tweak your behavior settings and gracefully shed those kilos.

The Great Scientists_2

We have the medieval Arab scientists and the orgin of modern mathematics with place value modern numbers and algebra. Then there is Leonardo da Vinci, I found it was interesting that there was a misfitting relationship with his mother as was with Newton. I can imagine why he wrote into his notebooks as there really wasn't a receptive world outside. The father of modern anatomy was rather special sleeping with corpses early on and then living the high life later. Nic Copernicus was interesting in that he came at the problem of the geocentric cosmos from a theoretical and not observational stand point retaining the key idea that the heavens must be full of orbs(featureless spheres) and move on strict circles (there was no idea of gravity). I like how it was the Lutherans that really held the work back. I am disappointed in the wrap up of science that we dont get to here of the English Bacons, Thomas and Francis or Nicholas du Cusa.
