A bit on evolution strategies of Arctic whales. There is an analysis of the Tobacco's industries new angle on selling its product. Come of the letters really reveal the need to filter some of the popular head lines through a logic checker. To this point the article on 100 harvest left really dealt with science click bate very well. My honest opinion on the benefit of IoT internet of things is going to be less energy and waste as things are monitored and cared for. Privacy is a cost but arises through the fact that all these devices will be in a mesh network speaking to each other. Like factor automation you need supervisory automation to stop play in the event of danger and supply redundant safety. This need to aggregate data locally and broker privacy is handled by an intelligent and transparent broker, that is exposed to audit and blind testing. That is it is feed false information with out its knowledge to see how it responds. I really should write a book on this some time.

Quantum Oscillator Rebuild
It seems rough but I build systems and run them at peak voltage until they blow up, see where the weakness is and rebuild better. Years ago I would flex circuits to find out weak joints before I installed them. Same here, 12 volts fried the solenoids but over 12 hours operation. This is a mid rebuild report where I have a new driver board, the old one didn't blow but its control chip super heated so this new one has a heat sink on it. As I remember more of the Arduino trivia slowly getting through the obsticals. At twenty four hours on the new design is spookily more advanced and compact. As the main faults are just moved aside there is a strange realization that I couldn't have built it directly without the faults feeding into my understanding. Weird!

Reading it unseen is a little harder. I do remember a new layout and an editorial about how going green is going to be fun. It is a real test from me.

Hydrogen to Nitrogen
I set out on what is nearly a two hour walk from home down and up a gorge, thinking I would cover the 118 elements. I only have got through the first seven, and even then I am still recalling details I missed. Knowing the wave functions and physics adds alot of depth to the knowledge.

Arthur Schopenhauer
This is moving on to read and recall. He is a philosopher people like to hate, but he was just super odd and frankly amazing.

The Great Scientists_9
This is where I find out the real dirt, Oppenhiemer wanted to run off with Pauling's wife. It was agonizing reading into electro-negativity 3.98 to 0.00. Really, this author has no idea of Quantum Mechanics.
The DNA crew is really an example of scientists behaving badly. I honestly think it is not so much about people mistreating women, and they did, but it is about the majority in any culture having it in for the minority. Let's get it into perspective that Crick believed that intelligent life sent DNA to earth on space probes. You have to love it. But if you are the only teacher pointing this out against six other classes ... well you can imagine the result and it is not "Oh I will bother to check that out"
Poor Stephen Hawking has this zombie article about him. When written he was still living.
I do like the bit that the big bang is a black hole in reverse. I don't think the book gets us across the line on Hawking radiation nor does it really get to the information paradox that quantum mechanics brings to the picture. What I really find jaw dropping is that our universe is maths these bits of equation get out to build galaxies about them. Space is just brimming with maths and matter is full of wave functions (that is physical models of solutions to mathematical equations). My understanding is beginning to dimly flicker on on this.
Unfortunately, I don't get to complete Stevo as I have to trek the family up the mountains to retrace the footsteps of Charles Darwin known in the vernacular as "Chuckie Dee". Apparently it is now emerging that he was not the nicest person. Oh Well, I kind of like Parmenides, and Epicurus, love Bruno to death, Francis Bacon was definitely out there, and there is no one more lovable than Faraday. Sorry about not finishing the series, only a page to go.

Periodic Table Test
Just driving to the shops and testing myself on 118e (118 elements) Lise Meitner niggled my memory to get a sense of what I didn't know.
This is a link to her quotes, and of all quotes I have read they have a special uncomplicated sincerity.

Alfred Wegner what a great scientist. I love the fact he was buried under his crossed skis and also like his words of a future Newton. It is a bit of John the baptist.
I have a strong dislike for the way Niels Bohr just pushed other people around.
Erwin Hubble, well isn't this a revealing expose of a wannabe pommie scientist. Only in America. His high school students really liked his eccentricities.
Reading about Heisenberg was total torture for me. But I did it.

The Great Scientists_7
Read over two days we have Marie Curie. Having read a bit on her background before I think people skip over the parts which make you wonder and see some ideas as new age a flaky. I just think, honestly, people are a victim of their own sanitized safe version of history and wind up not seeing just how flakey people where then.
Rutherford was a Kiwi and that about says it all. I see him slicing through to the science unencumbered by all the social mind games beset by old Europe. There is nothing like reading his original papers, they are well written and in English. The emphasis he had was not on what we need for telling the story. I think people think things should be told in an hour documentary, nice and clear and if more is needed they will accept at telimovie no more.
Einstein what a dude. I just think authors writing him up haven't read Kant or Nicholas of Cusa and declare him out of context. I think Quantum Mechanics in form is much closer to general rel because both are field theories. I am a little angry at the particle people still getting people confused. I am a little sad by his intellectual isolation when he died. Oh well.
