This is about music and the sun. I found the discussion about Opera a good tie together with the dates and interrelations. I think Opera is the DC comics of its day, and both deserve not contempt but some measured cultural analysis. Our ear has changed over time, and the several days it takes to listen to Ring Cycle now falls on the ears of a vast majority of people who are just overstimulated by our digital world. The Opera professor is this beautiful device and motif used by the author to bind this fractured narrative together. When she opts out of what must have been achingly shallow discussions and returns to Chile to die it seems the ultimate comment on Opera. That's just my complex thoughts on the topic.
