Now David looks at the oceans and the tides. Again he is right but if you were not a dedicated scientiest you might miss that tides are the stuff of gravitational gradients. The history stuff linking Darwin and Thomson is second to none. It is really rather poetic that Thomson who was rather rigid in life also had a totally rigid earth.
